MUNDUBILE TO GARNER BETWEEN 66 AND 75% OF THE POPULAR VOTE -Chris Zumani
LUSAKA – Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba, the influential Secretary General of the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance, has made a bold prediction regarding the outcome of Zambia's eagerly anticipated August 13 general elections. Speaking with conviction, Dr. Zimba asserted that the alliance's presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, is on track to secure a decisive victory, garnering an impressive 66% to 75% of the popular vote. This projection, he stated, is rooted in comprehensive internal assessments alongside corroborating local and international political analyses, suggesting a clear first-round win for Mundubile. Dr. Zimba, a political scientist with a notable background as a former political advisor to the late President Edgar Lungu, articulated his confidence during an interview on Diamond TV's 'Diamond Live' programme. He highlighted the significant momentum observed at Mundubile's campaign rallies across the seven provinces visited so far, noting the large, self-mobilised crowds as a testament to the candidate's widespread appeal. This electoral forecast comes at a critical juncture in Zambian politics, as the nation prepares for a highly contested election dominated by competing political alliances. The Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance itself is a significant force, representing a merger of the Tonse Alliance and the PF Pamodzi Alliance. This unification, which saw Brian Mundubile emerge as the presidential candidate with Makebi Zulu as his running mate, was a strategic move aimed at consolidating opposition strength. Dr. Zimba played a pivotal role in the formation of the Tonse Alliance, having established it after his release from imprisonment in 2023 and working closely with the late President Lungu to build the opposition coalition. He further revealed that the late President Lungu had entrusted him with implementing a 'Plan B' to identify a suitable candidate for the alliance after Lungu's ineligibility to contest the 2026 election was confirmed.
