Lusaka, Zambia – The Zambian government has officially extended its profound commendation to the Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) for its unwavering dedication and transformative impact on the lives of people across the nation. Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Patrick Kangwa, speaking on behalf of the government, acknowledged the ZRCS's consistent and positive response to various national challenges, emphasizing its crucial role as an auxiliary to public authorities in delivering essential aid and services. Mr. Kangwa highlighted the ZRCS's extensive work, which spans critical areas such as health and care, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and robust disaster management initiatives. He noted that the society's efforts are vital in strengthening community resilience, particularly in the face of natural disasters like floods and droughts, as well as public health crises such as cholera outbreaks. The Secretary to the Cabinet underscored the government's appreciation for the ZRCS's volunteer-driven approach, which enables it to reach even the most remote and vulnerable populations. The Zambia Red Cross Society, established in 1966 by an Act of Parliament, operates nationwide with a vast network of over 8,000 volunteers across 67 branches in all ten provinces. This extensive reach allows the organisation to implement targeted humanitarian interventions, including providing immediate relief, supporting long-term recovery, and fostering community development. Recent interventions have seen the ZRCS distributing emergency cash assistance and non-food items to flood-affected households in districts like Nalolo and providing farming inputs to drought-hit communities in Southern Province, demonstrating its comprehensive approach to humanitarian aid. Furthermore, the ZRCS has been at the forefront of public health initiatives, notably in the fight against cholera. Its efforts include constructing improved sanitation facilities and rehabilitating water systems, significant
