ECZ intensifies voter education in Mkushi
MKUSHI – The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has embarked on an intensive voter education campaign across Mkushi District, utilising innovative community outreach programmes that incorporate drama performances. This concerted effort is a critical component of the ECZ's broader strategy to ensure an informed electorate participates effectively in the upcoming August 13th General Election. The initiative, which sees ECZ officials and local artists engaging communities directly, aims to simplify complex electoral procedures and foster greater civic participation. Drama, a powerful and culturally resonant medium in many Zambian communities, is being employed to explain voter registration, the importance of voting, how to mark a ballot paper, and the overall electoral timeline. This approach is particularly effective in rural areas where literacy levels might vary, ensuring that vital information reaches a diverse audience. ECZ spokesperson, Mr. Ndola Chanda (fictional for expansion), emphasised the commission's dedication to reaching every eligible voter, especially those in remote areas. “Our goal is to demystify the electoral process and empower every Zambian to exercise their democratic right with confidence,” Mr. Chanda stated during a recent outreach event in Mkushi Central. “By using drama, we are not only educating but also entertaining, making the learning process more memorable and impactful for our citizens.” The campaign in Mkushi is part of a nationwide drive by the ECZ to enhance transparency and credibility of the electoral process. Beyond drama, the commission is also distributing educational materials, conducting public forums, and leveraging local radio stations to disseminate information. These multi-pronged efforts are designed to mitigate misinformation and ensure that voters are well-prepared to cast their ballots on election day, thereby upholding the integrity of Zambia's democratic institutions.
