Update: Lima MP Kelvin Kaunda moved to Mwembeshi remand, applies for bail after nearly a week in police custody
Lima Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda has been moved from Lubwa Police Post to Mwembeshi Remand, the Zambia Correctional Service has confirmed, and he has applied for bail. His lawyer, Emmanuel Kaluba, says he went to Mwembeshi and was denied access to his client. Correctional Service spokesperson Superintendent Cornelius Mwanza confirmed the transfer, saying: "He is at Mwembeshi Remand." Mr Kaunda, 44, is the Member of Parliament for Lima Constituency and belongs to the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity. Police spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha said he was formally arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm under Section 248 of the Penal Code. Police say Anthony Mwamba, 26, of Soweto Compound, reported that Mr Kaunda assaulted him on the evening of 7 August 2026 on Zingalume Road in Lusaka during campaign roadshows, using stones and fists, and that Mr Mwamba suffered a deep cut on the forehead and a swollen upper lip. Mr Kaunda has not been convicted and the allegation has not been tested in court. He was arrested shortly after the Lusaka High Cou
