Ex-Zambian minister killed in security raid on opposition

Law enforcement personnel reportedly returned fire, resulting in the fatal injury of an individual later identified by his grieving family as Kafwaya. Alongside the tragic casualty, authorities reported the arrest of eleven individuals, including three former military commandos, and claimed to have recovered high-grade weaponry and ammunition intended for alleged insurrection and militia activities. However, the official narrative has faced fierce pushback from opposition figures. Brian Mundubile, who finished second in the presidential poll behind Hichilema, has vehemently rejected the government's allegations of insurgency, dismissing them as total fabrications designed to intimidate political rivals. Mundubile, who went into hiding following the raid, described the operation as an outright attack on human life and stated that Kafwaya was struck by gunfire in his presence. The opposition leader's camp has maintained that the crackdown is an authoritarian response to their plans to legally challenge the election results due to alleged tallying irregularities.
