GLASGOW, SCOTLAND – As the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games enter their third day, Team Zambia is showcasing a blend of emerging talent and seasoned determination, with several athletes delivering commendable performances that have ignited national pride. The Zambian contingent, consisting of 22 athletes competing in athletics, boxing, judo, lawn bowls, and swimming, is striving to build on the nation's rich history at these prestigious games. One of the standout achievements came from the aquatic arena, where young swimmer Zach Moyo made waves by setting a new national record and personal best of 1:05.01 in the Men's 100m Breaststroke. His impressive 24th-place finish among 42 competitors underscores Zambia's growing competitiveness in swimming. Fellow Olympians Mia Phiri and Jade Phiri also delivered spirited performances in the Women's 50m Butterfly, facing a highly competitive international field. On the greens, the women's lawn bowls pair of Foster Banda and Gertrude Siame demonstrated remarkable resilience. After an initial setback against formidable Australian opponents, they bounced back with a memorable 2-0 victory over the Isle of Man, registering Zambia's first win in lawn bowls at these Games. The boxing ring also saw triumph for Zambia, with Emmanuel Katema delivering a dominant display in the Men's 65kg Round of 32. Katema secured his place in the next round by knocking out Sri Lanka's Chamil Pathmasiri, fueling hopes for a medal in a sport where Zambia has historically excelled. Meanwhile, Albert Ngulube is poised to make his Commonwealth Games debut in the Men's 60kg Lightweight Round of 32 against Kenia Ibrahim of Uganda, adding to the anticipation surrounding Zambia's boxing prospects. These early successes highlight the rigorous preparations undertaken by the National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia (NOC/CGA Zambia), which unveiled the team in June, emphasising dedication and consistent performance.
